11:12 pm - Neglectful

I am sorry, dear readers, that I have neglected this space. My priorities have been elsewhere... School, work, rise up buffalo journal, and other things, but Pride is coming. This year I am going to try and make it to the parade and spruce this place up with some Flickr pics. Keep your eyes peeled for that.

Peace,
Hippiegrrl

This is the TEST shipment you asked for

  • 21:03 Glee time! #
  • 14:54 @braybc There is a big difference between the terms black and coloured though. And she made a point to emphasize that term. Either way... #
  • 14:40 @braybc That means the whole story was basically fabricated. I suppose @wnymedia isn't as fact checked as it could be. Blogs are fallible. #
  • 08:26 "Chicago" was fantastic. Opening night was a hit. Reinking still knows how to choreograph what Fosse would like. Oh how I miss the stage. #
  • 19:16 Opening night at the theatre and people STILL cannot be bothered to dress up. Jeans? Really? #
  • 17:22 @writerchaz - I would have to research that to say definitively. There is a way to make a west side cafe feasible though. #
  • 17:09 @braybc - i just don't buy that cafes cater only to outside the neighbourhood residents. #
  • 16:55 I can guarantee (with 99% certainty) that I will be in tears by 9 or 10pm this evening. Watching rather than doing does that to me. #
  • 16:52 @braybc - the girl in the article made it seem like cafes only attract outside the community [read:white for west side]. i don't agree. #
  • 16:46 @braybc - 1 more question then. do you think a cafe is good for a community? if we were in europe i think the answer might differ. #
  • 16:12 @braybc - we seem to be seeing eye to eye of late. we'll see how long this lasts. #
  • 16:02 @braybc - Agreed. #
  • 15:56 @braybc - that's an interesting take on it. i was actually more interested in the different use of gentrification. #
  • 15:50 @braybc Why do you think she would lie? I'm not attacking you, just wondering why she would do that. It seems odd to make that up. #
  • 15:48 @HeroBeth It happens all the time. It's called losing commitment. If you really want to stay alive you will find ways to up the ante. #
  • 15:47 @braybc The girl being interviewed here said that the person behind the counter used the term "colored" when speaking directly to her. #
  • 15:41 @HeroBeth Agreed! Small businesses just need to find ways to remain useful in a big box store market. It can be done with ingenuity. #
  • 14:10 Gentrification and the West Side: Sophia Azeb - shar.es/127db (interesting to note that gentrification is not just a chain invasion) #
  • 13:09 @writerchaz - buffalo snob fodder! #
  • 12:41 @writerchaz - they don't get as gussied up as they should but we will! it is opening night after all. there better not be jeans there!! #

  • 09:58 @drewludwig - I would argue that Native Americans are a spiritual community that gets represented in team mascots as "Indians". #
  • 10:02 @nickelcity @chazadams -Is the Bass Pro that is to (supposedly) replace the Aud going to be any more aesthetically pleasing? A box is a box. #
  • 10:07 @nickelcity - box of cancer? wow. @chazadams -i haven't looked at the renderings. i defer to you. the aud was still more than an ugly box. #
  • 10:11 @chazadams @nickelcity My worry is more in the idea of tearing down a building and then leaving the lot empty. This often happens downtown. #
  • 10:13 @nickelcity - is the RE (as you put it) contaminated from the building removal? Will Bass Pro have an environmental "out"? #
  • 10:28 @nickelcity @chazadams - I realize that the Aud was a rotting building but there should at least be a reverence for what it represented. #
  • 10:37 @chazadams @nickelcity - A team doesn't have to win championships to be important to its fans. Look at the Bills. Fan history matters. #
  • 10:46 @nickelcity -I didn't think it should rot. I don't care that they tore it down. It just deserves reverence for what it was then we move on. #
  • 11:04 @nickelcity - To be honest it would probably be better to build a grocery store on that site then a bass pro but that's just my opinion. #
  • 11:58 @nickelcity - If you truly respect someone you don't call their ideas ridiculous. I don't actually need your validation. I live downtown. #
  • 12:02 @nickelcity @chazadams - Does urban planning not consider the needs of a community when planning its future? Perhaps that is a problem. #
  • 12:07 @nickelcity - Fine. Taking pictures must make you an urban planning expert then. Sorry for my input. I'll be sure to keep it to myself. #
  • 12:13 @chazadams - And you have rounded out the sentiment. My ideas are idiotic and ridiculous because they differ from yours. Very well then. #
  • 12:16 @buffalauren - it's always the best policy to defeat your intellectual opponent through insults. Wouldn't you agree? #
  • 12:19 @chazadams - What if there was a marketplace worked into the plans? Not a tops, but open air. On the waterfront. Why is this a bad concept? #
  • 12:20 @buffalauren - I am for progressive change. Not sure that a "big box" Bass Pro denotes this change but your point is well taken. #
  • 12:23 Now would be a good time to let the twitterverse know that I'm a sociology major. If I'm not questioning norms, I'm not doing my job. #
  • 12:25 @chazadams - If only the fish weren't laden with mercury so much that children and women of childbearing age are advised not to ingest it. #
  • 12:27 @braybc - Yes. And thanks for joining the conversation. I wondered where you were in this. #
  • 12:28 @chazadams - They will come to Bass Pro to buy supplies and then go back to where they already fish for sport. Not the waterfront. #
  • 12:33 @buffalopundit - Interesting concept. Like the economic development zones but actually helping the small businesses. I like it. #
  • 12:36 @nickelcity -It wasn't defensive, it was a question. What are your urban planning credentials that give you the right to call me ridiculous? #
  • 12:41 @nickelcity - I would say our conversation was over when you called me ridiculous but you would argue the point away. Cheers. #
  • 12:44 My job is to look at what is directly in front of me and decide what social forces have made it so. Nothing is personal. #
  • 12:45 @nickelcity - Yet you believe it. That I'm dumb because I disagree with you. I'm not offended. You are entitled to your opinion. #
  • 12:47 Does it have an effect on development when those making the plans have no connection to the place? When they cannot consider the history? #
  • 12:48 @nickelcity - Wait, what? #
  • 12:49 @drewludwig - They "should" know is the point there, right? Many people do not know. So they wield the tomahawks and squeal. #
  • 12:52 @nickelcity - Fine. Done. Not trying to be psychic. From your tone in earlier tweets it seemed that way. #
  • 12:58 @braybc - Again I agree with you. First yesterday and now today? What is happening to that "lost boys" dichotomy we had? Things change. #
  • 12:58 @chazadams - eye candy? what a perfect way to put it. no substance, all fluff. #
  • 14:04 @drewludwig - isn't that sad though, that some people refuse to open their minds to anything outside their own culture? #
  • 16:20 Just to be clear, in case anyone cares, I live in downtown Buffalo and actually do care about how things progress. #
  • 16:33 @braybc The reason I said open air was to differentiate it from tops. Still enclosed but with open market stands throughout. Not aisles. #
  • 16:38 RT @HealthReformNow: New Harvard study says 1 person every 12 minutes in the US dies because they lack health insurance bit.ly/1pcccx #
  • 16:49 @writerchaz - Yes. Like that but nicer. Like le marche but food to take home. #

  • 12:08 Must be 90's day on MTVU. Just saw a Marilyn Manson video, followed by Tool. This I could get used to. #

  • 14:29 @writerchaz and now i want a twinkie. damn that power of suggestion! #
  • 18:50 @braybc @jodiejustice - Good option is a reverse osmosis home system and a nalgene bottle for transport. Good for environment and you. #
  • 22:04 @JodieJustice nalgene is just a reusable plastic bottle and reverse osmosis is a filtration system. Don't worry - I sucked at science too! #
  • 22:49 I cannnot believe I'm saying this but I agree with @braybc. Gervais > Carrell. British is generally better than American TV though. #

  • 07:27 Thank you Michael Eric Dyson for putting this into perspective. Not all opposition is racist, but there is still an undercurrent of it. #
  • 08:12 Professor sighting at the caffe. I was a bumbling idiot because of the out of context nature of the exchange. Not surprising. #
  • 08:32 If you don't think that racism is alive and well in the "birther" and "teaparty" movements you are just not paying attention. #carterisright #

  • 12:27 While I'm on the dorkwagon I think I'll also comment on how much I love the smell of library stacks. #
  • 16:29 Why do the people working in the union move in slow motion? It should not take 15 minutes to make a latte - at least not a good one. #
  • 16:37 @jodiejustice @braybc - I must intervene for a moment. LaSalle (and other areas of Niagara Falls such as Deveaux) has nice homes. #
  • 16:39 @jodiejustice @braybc - also, how are you rating success in this "theory"? There are many successful people who grew up in NF. #
  • 16:41 @jodiejustice - i wouldn't say ALL of NT has nie homes. That is a bit too general. There are some trashy homes too, just like some of NF. #
  • 16:44 @jodiejustice - one last thing (and I didn't mean to bicker with you) maybe NF isn't the best standard to hold NT against. Tonawanda maybe? #
  • 16:50 @jodiejustice - to that i most definitely agree - NT > Tonawanda. I'll throw you another and say NT > Lockport. :) #
  • 16:54 @braybc - why do we need a hardware store in the EV when there is a true value in North Buffalo. That is what your neighbourhood is for. #
  • 17:00 @marc_hurst Take two - Twitter is a great place to network. Students would do well to understand its worth. #
  • 19:09 @chazadams @ericabrotz - or apple pie. #
